Celebrating our platinum jubilee year

70 in 22

Logo round 70.psdHenleaze Junior School opened in September 1952. We are celebrating our 70th birthday throughout the year commencing in September 2022.

We have lots of exciting events planned, all centred around our core values of belonging, respect, creativity and inspiration. To start off with, we've revamped our school logo and given everyone a smart enamelled lapel badge to wear with pride!

In May 2023, we will be getting all artistic with an Enrichment Week during which children will work together in mixed age groups with professional artists to create a lasting legacy of our platinum jubilee. We will also be taking a whole school photograph and holding a celebratory picnic on the school field.

We have plans to make a treasure hunt, using artefacts and photographs from our history, and a time capsule, as a record of life in modern times. Our team of news reporters will document all of our events, and will also interview past pupils of the school to find out about their memories.

As a school with a strong musical tradition, we have decided to get in touch with past pupils to join our HJS70 Choir and Orchestra. In March, we will be holding a musical afternoon workshop when past pupils, parents, staff and governors are invited to come along and sing or play with our current school choir and orchestra. We hope that we can incorporate the HJS70 musicians in our annual Music Evenings at the end of the spring term, either performing live or captured on film.

Get involved in our platinum jubilee

If you used to go to Henleaze Junior School, or if you have ever worked here, we would love to hear from you. If you would like to visit, we can arrange to show you around your old school. If you are happy to share your memories, our news crew would love to interview you. If you are musical, you may like to join our HJS70 Choir or Orchestra, singing and playing along with our children as part of our annual Music Evenings.
