Term 2 Week 4 and 5

What we have been up and what is coming up

Last week we carried on writing our own fantasy stories. We have been writing them in chunks to make sure we are careful about our punctuation, common word spellings and that we add in lots of interesting vocabulary. Some classes will continue with their stories this week and then we will all move on to looking at non-fiction writing, spending special attention to the author Roald Dahl.

In Maths, we have been looking at our times tables. Children should be able to answer questions on their 2, 3, 4, 5 and 10 x table. We are practising these as well as understanding their division facts. We have moved on to look at our 8 times table and how this is doubling the 4 times table, as well as thinking about doubling and halving in more detail.

Spellings – for the next two weeks the spelling pattern is words ending in –ous.

Classes this week have the real treat of going to Redland Education Centre to follow their ‘Christmas through the keyhole’ trail. It’s a really exciting way to learn about the Christmas story.

We also have the Dogs Trust coming in to do workshops and an assembly with us.

A gentle reminder to make sure you write in the three reads your child is doing at home so they can earn lots of team points. We love seeing what they have been reading.
