Welcome back!

Back to school on Wednesday 6th September 2017

We are really excited about the new school year.

We are thinking about all the challenges ahead, all the opportunities, and the fun we are going to have!

Staff have been back for two days already, learning together and having fun. We spent an enjoyable afternoon working with a director from Bristol Old Vic on choral speaking. We can't wait to try that out in the classroom! And we've been looking at fractions in Maths, an area that a lot of children seem to find difficult. We've discovered exciting new ways to approach the subject in the classroom, and we hope to spread the joy of maths far and wide in Henleaze year!

We have been sorting out our ideas for this year's clubs, and on Friday we will be sending out a booking form with the newsletter. If you've read our newsletters at the end of last year, you will know that we are doing things slightly differently this year. We have asked Shine to run our sports clubs for us, and to manage the bookings and payments directly. The clubs that our staff will be offering are free of charge. Some will be in the morning, some at lunchtime and some after school. The timetable will be on the Clubs page, with brief details about each club.

Year 6 children will be asked to choose their residential trip for next June. We'll send the letter out onFriday and give you a week to think about it. Both choices are fabulous, and we know you will have a great time, even if your first choice is over-subscribed.

We will be sorting Year 5 children into two groups for their Dean Field Study Centre residential, and letting them know which group they are in next week.

Sarah in the office has been very busy trying to get all of our pupil records up to date. If you have provided us with your email address, you will automatically be added to our mailing list for the HJS Update on Friday. If you do not receive the email on Friday afternoon, please let us know. We expect all families to read the Update every week as it contains essential information.

So, like the HJS yeti, lets all face the challenge of the new year. There's so much we don't know yet, but finding out is going to be a lot of fun!
