Welcome to Year 6!

Key messages from the year 6 team from the second week of term.

Welcome Class of 2019!

What a fantastic start our new year 6s have made! The children have taken on various lunchtime and classroom duties with enthusiasm. We've been impressed by their maturity and positive attitudes.

This week in maths, we have been focussing on our place value skills using numbers all the way to 10,000,000 and next week we will travel in the opposite direction practising with negative numbers. In English, we have been testing our memories with grammar skills including word classes and basic punctuation - how many pronouns can you list in 30 seconds?! Over the next fortnight we will be putting these skills into practice in our first long write - a warning story.

On Friday, we look forward to electing team captains, the children will have many excellent candidates to chose from and we encourage all children to take a risk and consider running - it's a fantastic leadership development opportunity. Any children unsuccessful could consider running for school council, especially with the exciting playground changes they will be responsible for this year.

Don't forget residential choices also close on Friday, both trips are brilliant but if your child has a preference they need to register it this week to avoid disappointment.

Right, let's get to work!
