Over the holidays, the children are being encouraged to carry out some research on how WW2 affected their own families. We will be creating a mini-museum in each class and would welcome photographs, artefacts and memories. We would also love to have visitors who have personal recollections of the war as this always brings the topic alive for children.
In addition, your child will be bringing home English homework. This is a previous SATs reading comprehension paper. We encourage children to complete this to the timings (1 hour) of a real test but strict test conditions are not necessary, for example you could split it into smaller sections checking answers in between. Any children who usually have extra time should use an extra 15 minutes to complete the paper.
The markscheme to this paper is in Year 6 resouces: Markscheme - The Great Plague
Still more valuable than completing the test will be the discussion with yourselves after; using the markscheme to spot challenging questions, adding detail to answers and agreeing top tips for comprehension success. We will ask the children to bring back their completed question paper after the holidays.
Please also spend some time over the holiday looking back over the weekly arithmetic and termly reasoning tests.
Don't forget Super Sewing next Wednesday, we have had some kind volunteers already but could always use more and the children need to remember their supplies on this day.
