This week started off with a bang with Europe Day on Monday! It was a great success, with children creating their own top trumps cards, playing Russia's longest river against Estonia's, Spain's population against Poland's... They also had a go at some impressionist painting, recreating Monet's 'The Water Lily Pond' using cotten buds and some poster paint, and a bit of Russian dancing to finish off the day.
In literacy we have been continuing our work on mystery stories, this week looking at use of language and sentence length to increase tension, and improving our writing by adding more detail.
In Spellings we have finished the -ence spelling pattern, and will be moving on next week, so please make sure you child is practising words from all the completed units, to keep them fresh in their minds.
In Maths we are continuing our work on fractions, looking to order and compare them. In order to do this, we sometimes have to make sure all the denominators are the same, by making them into equivalent fractions, something that I'm sure you're children will be able to explain to you.
Tomorrow is Red Nose Day in school, and we will be holding our Battle of the Bands competitions in classes, to find out who is our class champion. Each performer is asked to bring in 50p, in order to enter the competition, and if children would like to vote for the winner, they will need to bring in 50p to buy a strip of voting tokens. The winner of each class will go on to perform in a school assembly, before a panel of judges (teachers!).
Next Wednesday, Year 5 will be going on an Easter trail around Henleaze. This is a great opportunity for the students to learn about one of the major wolrd religions in a hands on way, and will be a really interesting experience. It is a walking trail, and we will be going rain or shine, so please make sure your children come to school equipped for the weather that day! Class 5 will be leaving at 8.50, and so we ask that they come in to school early, and be in class by 8.40 at the latest. We will need at least 4 parents helpers for each class, so if you are happy to come and support a class, please let the office know. There will be 3 groups leaving throughout the day, so if you can't attend your child's class trip, but are still willing to help with another trip, please let the office know.
