The NW24 Big Bake

On Thursday 1st February our team of champion bakers went to Christchurch Primary School in Clifton to take part in the Big Bake.

NW24 is the collective name for a group of schools in the North West part of Bristol. Last year, a group of school councillors from half a dozen schools came up with ideas for events which would bring together children from different schools. The Big Bake is one of those events.

12 schools altogether took part - 6 in the morning and 6 in the afternoon. We were cooking alongside Westbury Park Primary, Woodstock, Elmlea Junior, St Peter and St Paul Primary and Hotwells Primary. Each school sent a team of 2 or 3 children. When they arrived, they were given a cookie recipe and the required ingredients for 30 cookies. They had planned in advance and brought their own special extras to add. They worked through the afternoon, making the dough, rolling and cutting, and while the biscuits baked, they had time to decorate a box to present them in.

We are very proud of our team, all chosen because they were winners in their own class, so they didn't really know each other until they were introduced on Tuesday morning. They worked brilliantly together, sharing ideas, allocating jobs and smiling their way through the afternoon.
